MSN Client
Windows Live Messenger (previously known as MSN Messenger) is an instant messaging client that was first introduced in 1999. Over that time it has evolved into what it is today. All the basics are there, plus a few features that make it different from the others.

At it’s heart, Windows Live Messenger is a text-based instant messenger. Individual chat with contacts is easy, and you can chat with those using WLM or Yahoo Messenger. Group chat is an option on WLM, but it is limited to a maximum of 20 people per group. This is fine for families or small groups of friends, but is less than ideal for large businesses.
Using drag and drop, you can place your favorite chatmates at the top of your contacts list. Drag and drop also makes sharing photos super easy. Open your photos folder on your computer then drag it directly to the chat window and your friend will see it right away.
Sharing files is a bit different on WLM, too. Instead of transferring individual files, Windows Live Messenger uses folder sharing. You upload a folder to your contact and they will be able to view all of the folders you are sharing. In effect, the folder is being shared by both computers, and if you delete it on your end, it will automatically be deleted from your contact’s computer, too.
When you change your background, your friends will see it when they are chatting with you. A fun feature of WLM is the ability to assign a personal picture to the emoticons. For example, instead of seeing the default smiley face after typing
your friends will see a picture of you smiling.
With Windows Live Messenger you can be updated on what your friends have been doing. By clicking on the “What’s New” tab at the bottom of the main chat window, you can view newly uploaded photos, see their status or their activity on social networking sites.
If you have a Hotmail account you can access messages directly from Windows Live Messenger with its integration feature. An icon alerts you to new messages, while clicking it allows you to read your messages right from the Messenger window.
As with other major chat clients, Windows Live Messenger has PC-to-PC phone calling enabled. However, both parties must have WLM, compatible equipment and an active Internet connection. PC-to-PC video chat is available, but requires the addition of a webcam and a broadband connection.
Users with bigger needs may be irritated by some of Windows Live Messenger’s limitations, but it still has plenty of fun and useful features for regular users.
